It’s a ritual in Kerala to light a large number of traditional lights with oil to make a visual treat and for blessings of God. It’s usually conducted as part of festivals associated with temples. The number of lights can go beyond a lakh which in turns gives a name to it as ‘Lakshadeepam’ (Laksha – lakh, deepam- light).
